Why we do not usually recommend licence-free radios for warehouses

They can be more vulnerable to interference because other nearby users may be operating on the same licence-free channels. Coverage can also become unreliable inside large buildings, across multiple floors, around metal racking or between a warehouse and its external yard.
For a busy warehouse where communication is important to daily operations, we would normally recommend professional licensed radios. These provide a more suitable foundation for a reliable system and can be combined with a repeater where additional coverage is needed.

When does a warehouse need a repeater?

Motorola SLR5500 repeater systems
For a permanent warehouse or distribution centre installation, we would typically recommend considering the Motorola SLR5500 repeater.
A complete repeater system is more than the repeater itself. It may also require a suitable antenna, duplexer equipment, feeder or coaxial cable, connectors and installation hardware. The antenna, duplexer and cable must be selected to match the operating frequency and the requirements of the site.

Ofcom radio licensing
Professional radio systems require the correct Ofcom licence.
For a radio-to-radio system that does not use a repeater, the licence cost is currently £75 for five years. This covers the radios being used on the system.
If communication is going through a repeater, you would need your own frequency. A two-channel repeater setup can cost up to £150 per year, depending on the licence and system requirements.
